A new oil discovery by Waha Oil Company Waha Oil Company reports that it has drilled the 6Q1-59 New
Field Wildcat well to a total depth of 9,227 feet. The well is located in Sirte Basin approximately 80 km South east of Marada Town.
The initial production testing from Lidam and Lower Beda established an oil flow as follows:

A new oil discovery by (LIA) & Medco NOC announced on 19/07/2010 that Libyan Investment
Authority (LIA) & Medco International Ventures Limited
being partners in an Exploration and Sharing agreement, report initial information concerning the exploration well N1-47/02 New Field Wildcat in Ghadamis Basin. The well is located approximately 200 km Southwest of Tripoli.
The well N1-47/02, drilled in Ghadamis Basin area 47 to a total depth 10,775 feet, encountered hydrocarbons in Memoniat and Lower Acacus.


The ESSL organised its monthly lecture meeting Last Monday July 5, 2010 the Earth Science Society of Libya
(ESSL) arranged a luncheon lecture which was delivered by a visiting lecturer Prof. Stephen Flint, Dean of Graduate Studies, University of Liverpool, UK.  This lecture was titled (Stratigraphic Prediction: a 21st Century tool in Exploration and Field Development).  On Thursday July 8, 2010 AGOCO Oil Company kindly sponsored this lecture and another titled (Structure and Stratigraphy of the Offshore Sirt – a seismic view & possible implications for the opening the Mediterranean) in Benghazi. The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Mark Shann, BP Libya Exploration.

  


Meeting with the Belarus Ambassador to Libya On Sunday, 04/07/2010 Dr. Shokri Ghanem, NOC’s
Chairman met with Mr. Anatoly Stibus the Belarus Ambassador and Mr. Jraijuri Jrohmeyko economic adviser to the Belarus embassy.
During the meeting both parties discussed relations between the two countries in the field of oil and gas and ways to strengthen, and touched Ambassador to the possibility of establishing investment projects in his the country, and also touched upon his country's desire to obtain quantities of Libyan crude oil.

In a press release to the NOC” website , the efforts of BP.oil company to control
the oil of the disaster that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, and the extent of its impacts on the company's operations in general and activity in Libya in particular.
Dr. Shokri Ghanem said the companies drill depths of more than two thousand meters under the sea this a new activity and of course any new activity has effects, therefore, these incidents often get in the activities of oil and the Gulf of Mexico is a regrettable incident , but should not stand obstacle to scientific progress and humanitarian
We agreed to continue work with BP Oil Company in Libya and discussed this matter with the BP’s Chairman Company in our met with him, and also the event and detailed explanation and efforts by the company to control the disaster.

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) was established on 12 November 1970 , under Law No: 24/1970, replacing the general Libyan Petroleum Corporation which established under Law No. 13 of 1968  to assume the responsibility of the oil sector operations . It was later reorganized under decision No :10/1979 by the General Secretariat of the General People's Congress, to undertake the realization of the objectives of the development plan in the areas of petroleum , supporting the national economy through increasing , developing and exploiting the oil reserves and operating and investing in those reserves , to realize optimum returns. In carrying out its activities, NOC may enter into participation agreements with other companies and corporations carrying out similar activities.
 
Therefore, ImageNOC is carrying out exploration and production operation through its own affiliated companies, or in participation with other companies under service contracts or any other kind of petroleum investment agreements . This is in addition to marketing operations of oil and gas, locally and abroad . For this purpose, NOC has its own fully owned companies which carry out exploration, development and production operations, in addition to local and international marketing companies. NOC also has participation agreements with specialized international companies. Such agreements have developed into exploration and production sharing agreements, in accordance with the development of the international oil and gas industry, and international petroleum marketing .
 
ImageNOC owns refining, and oil and gas processing companies, operating refineriessuch as Zawia and Ras Lanuf refineries, ammonia, urea and methanol plants,  the Ras Lanuf petrochemical complex and the gas processing plan. To establish petrochemical industries, anther stage of development of the ethylene plant has been completed , as well as the low and high density linear polyethylene plants.

NOCImage also owns national service companies which carry out oil well drilling and work over operations, provide all drilling material and equipment, lay and maintain oil and gas pipelines, build and maintain oil and gas storage tanks and carry out related technical and economic studies . They also provide the sector with other services , such as catering, procurement of materials and equipment, training and employment of  foreign employees.

Also affiliated to NOC is a petroleum research centre which carries out research and Imagetechnical studies related to the oil industry, conducts technical analysis and tests for the various stages of exploration and production of oil and petroleum products, performs quality control tests and issues certificates in this respect. It also evaluates patents and licenses of exploitation and the fees and forms related to oil operations and petroleum products . It publishes the studies carried out by the centre in the publication of the centre , as well as the local and international scientific publications.

ImageIn the area of manpower development, NOC provides the oil industry with qualified nationals within a well planned scheme founded on a base of educational and training institutions, for training and developing qualified manpower in such professions as engineering , accounting and administration.
 

Training outside the Great Jamahiriya is limited to those technical specializations which are not available locally, to cope with the rapid development of the industry. Technical training is being carried out at the training centers and institutions belonging to NOC, to develop specialized technicians for the operation and maintenance of industrial facilities and plants
